Success -- is it possible without personal development? Can you achieve life success when you do nothing intentionally to improve yourself? Without development in some form success is elusive. Your life can be your teacher. Within it are the lessons that can become your tools for both personal development and self improvement and success. And there are opportunities to intentionally improve your self and your level of success.
So, when does self improvement become synonymous with success? Where do we start? When you intentionally work to develop yourself you are moving toward greater success. Learning and continuous education are both keys.
1. Self improvement is a personal journey. Everyone is not ready to accept change or engage in a process of self improvement. Our world is diverse. Full of people with different ideas, values, and attitudes. Not everyone is ready to embark on self improvement. It is surprising to those of us that are engaged and benefiting and at the same time it is important to respect where each person is at.
2. Work to radiate your confidence, your self-love. When you think of yourself as a negatively, that energy radiates from you. Others feel your energy. And they stop. How can others accept you if YOU can’t accept YOU? How do others love you if you don’t love you?
3. Switch your mind set. Positive energy builds positive energy. If you choose to envy others, the result is negative energy. You begin to focus on what you don’t have. Instead of envy switch your mind to think more on self improvement, not self pity/self-doubt. Self acceptance is about loving yourself as you are, seeing your inner beauty and radiating that to others.
4. Be purposeful in your planning and goal setting. They should have meaning to you, relevance to your life and be within reach while being a stretch. They each point to your success, your vision and result in an improved YOU.
5. You can be a model of intentional personal development; show others how to engage in their own personal development. When people are feeling down and out about themselves, you can help them shift their personal mind set. It’s important to take care of yourself when you are exposed to someone who is struggling, feeling down: don’t go down with them. They will invite you to enter their negative world and they have the ability to pull you down with them. The result is negative for both of you.
6. Learn your lessons. Life is a valuable classroom. It is a place for continuous learning, not mistakes. Turn around “mistakes” and make them an opportunity for learning, for self improvement. Value the lessons that you learn in this classroom. Look at what has gone well – the accomplishments and also look at what didn’t go well – the disappointments. This is the data for finding your lessons and setting up new guidelines for the future.
7. Create a daily practice. The most successful people have established a ritual or daily practice of self improvement and personal development. It is intentional, not coincidental.
8. Self improvement builds self confidence, self love, self appreciation and enhanced self esteem. This improved state results in SUCCESS. Personal development builds your success. Is it essential?
9. Remember to do the “little” things for others. We can forget that saying “thank you” or “hi” or just a simple smile are the simple things that can make a difference in the life of another person AND each make you feel good. When we’re being appreciative about beautiful things around us and other people, we also become beautiful to them.
10. The people within our lives are our teachers. Our lives the classroom. In an intentional personal development plan you choose to add other teachers, you can even choose who they are. It is your intentional plan for self improvement. When we open our doors, we increase our chances to head to the road of success.
Creating your personal self improvement plan leads you to success. When you have a mindset focused on your personal development you are taking control of your success and driving yourself, your life to it. As a result of your daily practice your life is enhanced. It is an opportunity to change your patterns, to change what you have always done that wasn’t working and improve your life. Take action today and begin developing your personal development strategy and grow your success.

Are You Evaluating Your Lead Generation Strategies?
Are you evaluating your lead generation strategies?
Generating new leads is a focus of most business owners. But do you ever stop to evaluate where your leads are coming from and how your lead generation methods are working? It is important to have systems in place to track new leads and evaluate each lead strategy.
There are a couple of ways that you can do this.
1. Website –
If you have a website then it should be one of your lead generation strategies. You want to have your subscription form on your site for your newsletter or email list. If you don’t, you will not be able to keep in touch with folks that visit your site. Take a look at your website statistics to see what kind of traffic your site receives and where the traffic is coming from. If your web host does not provide statistics you should set up a Google Analytics account and add the code to your web pages in order to track your traffic. You want to know who is visiting, how long they are staying on your site, what pages they are visiting and where they came from to get there. Did they do a search? If so, what keyword were they searching that landed them with you? Once they are there are they interacting with you and your site: subscribing to your newsletter, taking surveys, leaving feedback on your guestbook or forums? All of this detail is great information for you.
2. Leads –
Do you receive leads from referrals, lead boxes, listings in directories, yellow pages? When a new person contacts you it is a good idea to ask where they got their information from. Recently several business owners have asked whther the Yellow Pages is a good place for them to spend their money. As a business coach I really don’t know the answer to that because it is different for each business. It depends if YOUR business is receiving calls as a result of the ad. That is why asking about where the lead came from is so very important.
It's essential that you know where your leads are coming in and what isn't working. It's not cost effective or wise to use mediums that aren't working. They should be changed so that there are more leads generated, in the case of a website, or done away with altogether, in the case of a
newspaper advertisement.
The medium that you dispose of right now can always be revisited in the future.
A down economy is a great time to evaluate everything that you are doing, but it is not a time to eliminate advertising and marketing. You have to continue to market or you won’t have new leads and referrals. Do your marketing wisely, track it all and evaluate relevant pieces each month.
As part of the new Business Coaching Express program I am offering a marketing plan review. If you have questions about your marketing then sign up today.

Happy Summer!
Happy Summer! I hope you are enjoying the season. We are, here in New Jersey! I just returned from a few days at the shore, enjoying castle building , sea shell hunts, and walking on the board walk.
We hope to get in some camping and other travel later in the summer.
There is lots happening at Compass Rose Consulting too!
I recently presented 2 workshops at the Holistic Mentorship Network Conference. It was held in beautiful setting in New York State. Very restful. The Vision Board workshop was again such a success that I am planning to offer it hear later this summer and again in the fall. Be sure to keep an eye out.
I am also in the process of moving my websites to a new hosting company that will offer me additional resources AND will be moving my list. That means you! I will need you to confirm your participation on the list when you recieve the email. Otherwise you will be dropped. I will also be sending you a link for several different opportuntities! My Launching Your Dream e-course, free reprots etc. My plan right now is to continue Bearing Points. It is going to have a totally new look and feel. I think you will be impressed. It will focus on leadership in business. I will also be adding a marketing newsletter. I need a name for it! Do you have any ideas? The marketing news will give you marketing tips, access to marketing resources, software, reports, etc.
If you have a name for that newsletter -- send it to: donna@compassroseconsulting.com
Compass Rose Consulting is evolving this year -- it's fifth anniversary into a company focused on leadership development for small businesses and leadership teams. My vision is to continue to offer Bizology.Biz to micro businesses, the Leader's Book Club will be up again, along with programs for leadership teams, sales teams and management teams. Is Compass Rose Consulting the right name? Perhaps Compass Rose Center for Leadership; or Compass Rose Institute for Entrepeurial Leadership; or Compass Rose Entrepreneurial Leadership Center.
What do you think? The ultimate vision is to have a center where business owners can come for training, coaching, retreats etc.
You know, that I believe in sharing vision. This is a part of mine. I hope you will continue the journey with me. My passion is supporting your success! I have many things happening this fall. I hope you will be a part of them.
Happy Summer!
