Three Proven Ways to Attract New Clients, Fast!
That’s why we marketers spend so much time, effort and money trying to put our offers in front of targeted leads. But it doesn’t have to be that hard… not when you know which marketing methods work best.
Here are three proven tactics you can start using today…
#1: Social Media Marketing
Savvy marketers know that social media marketing is in its infancy – and it’s set to explode in the coming years! Those who set up their social marketing campaigns now are the ones who will benefit the most in the future.
That’s because social media marketing is all about building relationships with others and building networks and contact lists. The sooner you get started building a good reputation in your niche, establishing yourself as an expert and building social media networks, the more you stand to gain when you fully leverage your reputation, content and networks.
So where do you start? With the some of the biggest social media sites, including:
• Web 2.0 content sites, like Squidoo.com. These sites let you page one-page websites around niche topics. Google tends to crawl these pages often and rank them well.
• Social networking sites like Facebook.com. While you should focus on finding or creating niche-specific groups on these general networking sites, be sure to always seek out niche-specific networking sites.
• Social bookmarking sites, like Digg.com. These sites allow users to share content – and they can be a great tool in your viral marketing campaigns.
#2: Search Engine Marketing
You can pull in traffic from the search engines in two ways:
• By ranking well for certain keywords and appearing in the organic search engine results.
• By using pay per click marketing to appear in the search engine’s sponsored results (for example, Google AdWords).
You should add both of these tactics to your marketing toolkit. That’s because organic search engine results can provide traffic for months (and even years) after you get your pages indexed. But on the flip side, pay per click marketing allows you to get highly targeted, nearly instant traffic.
#3: Buying Ads
Yet another way to get your offers in front of eager prospects is by placing targeted ads. You can do this by online and offline, including:
• Purchasing banner and text ads on highly targeted niche sites.
• Buying ads and solo ads in highly targeted niche ezines.
• Buying blog ads.
• Buying ads in offline publications, including niche magazines and the related topics of daily newspapers.
Which One Is Right For You?
This isn’t a matter of choosing the one tactic that provides the best results. And that’s because all three of these tactics are proven, time-tested marketing methods. They shouldn’t be used individually, but rather as part of your overall marketing strategy.
While powerful, these three main advertising methods are just the tip of the marketing iceberg. When you unleash these three alongside other equally powerful marketing methods, you’ll unleash a nearly unstoppable flow of qualified leads. And it all starts when you claim a free Silver Membership at TrafficGenerationClub (normally $27.00) –

Does Personal Development Equal Success
So, when does self improvement become synonymous with success? Where do we start? When you intentionally work to develop yourself you are moving toward greater success. Learning and continuous education are both keys.
1. Self improvement is a personal journey. Everyone is not ready to accept change or engage in a process of self improvement. Our world is diverse. Full of people with different ideas, values, and attitudes. Not everyone is ready to embark on self improvement. It is surprising to those of us that are engaged and benefiting and at the same time it is important to respect where each person is at.
2. Work to radiate your confidence, your self-love. When you think of yourself as a negatively, that energy radiates from you. Others feel your energy. And they stop. How can others accept you if YOU can’t accept YOU? How do others love you if you don’t love you?
3. Switch your mind set. Positive energy builds positive energy. If you choose to envy others, the result is negative energy. You begin to focus on what you don’t have. Instead of envy switch your mind to think more on self improvement, not self pity/self-doubt. Self acceptance is about loving yourself as you are, seeing your inner beauty and radiating that to others.
4. Be purposeful in your planning and goal setting. They should have meaning to you, relevance to your life and be within reach while being a stretch. They each point to your success, your vision and result in an improved YOU.
5. You can be a model of intentional personal development; show others how to engage in their own personal development. When people are feeling down and out about themselves, you can help them shift their personal mind set. It’s important to take care of yourself when you are exposed to someone who is struggling, feeling down: don’t go down with them. They will invite you to enter their negative world and they have the ability to pull you down with them. The result is negative for both of you.
6. Learn your lessons. Life is a valuable classroom. It is a place for continuous learning, not mistakes. Turn around “mistakes” and make them an opportunity for learning, for self improvement. Value the lessons that you learn in this classroom. Look at what has gone well – the accomplishments and also look at what didn’t go well – the disappointments. This is the data for finding your lessons and setting up new guidelines for the future.
7. Create a daily practice. The most successful people have established a ritual or daily practice of self improvement and personal development. It is intentional, not coincidental.
8. Self improvement builds self confidence, self love, self appreciation and enhanced self esteem. This improved state results in SUCCESS. Personal development builds your success. Is it essential?
9. Remember to do the “little” things for others. We can forget that saying “thank you” or “hi” or just a simple smile are the simple things that can make a difference in the life of another person AND each make you feel good. When we’re being appreciative about beautiful things around us and other people, we also become beautiful to them.
10. The people within our lives are our teachers. Our lives the classroom. In an intentional personal development plan you choose to add other teachers, you can even choose who they are. It is your intentional plan for self improvement. When we open our doors, we increase our chances to head to the road of success.
Creating your personal self improvement plan leads you to success. When you have a mindset focused on your personal development you are taking control of your success and driving yourself, your life to it. As a result of your daily practice your life is enhanced. It is an opportunity to change your patterns, to change what you have always done that wasn’t working and improve your life. Take action today and begin developing your personal development strategy and grow your success.

Creating Your Best Year Yet
In the Best Year Yet® system of creating plans for success there are 5 Principles of Transformation and a sixth to “Make it all Happen”, for your life and business. Spend a few minutes today learning these principles and see how you can transform your life.
Principle One:
Appreciate Accomplishments!
We look first at last year’s successes and disappointments. In the cycle of productivity this is the last step and is often one that we skip. We focus on creating and doing and forget to appreciate what we did and learn from our accomplishments and disappointments. By staying in touch with your successes, you generate the confidence to move on to make new things happen, giving us energy and motivation that generates our success.
We often forget to recognize the things we have accomplished and focus on the things we didn’t. In the 2004 summer Olympics a track athlete won 4 out of five gold medals. In interviews with him he focused on the one medal he didn’t achieve instead of on the incredible success he had. Acknowledge your accomplishments, each year, each month, even every day. Focusing on accomplishments builds energy for moving forward, for achieving more.
Take a few moments to make a list of those things that you did well and that made you proud during the past year. Some examples might be:
“I resolved a family conflict with a win-win result.”
“Our newest product increased overall annual sales revenue by 15%.”
“I added five new customers to my business each week”
“I spent important and valuable time with my family”
Include everything you can think of, the big accomplishments and the small. Don’t edit and judge the list, just get them all down on paper. Give yourself credit for what you have done. Once you have completed the list, look over it and appreciate yourself and what you have done. I encourage my clients to do this exercise every day. Its part of what I call a Passion Journal. When you are a small business owner this exercise can keep your momentum going, can help you build needed energy for continuing your business. At the end of the year, when you look back at your accomplishments your list is pages and pages, and you are in awe of yourself!!
The second part of this step is to acknowledge your disappointments and challenges. It’s the other side of the coin. Review those things that did not turn out well because of your own actions or events beyond your control. Some examples:
“I was impatient with my mother when she needed my time.”
“Our endowment fund did not earn a satisfactory return on investment.”
“I didn’t get the new product launched”
“I spent too much time working”
“We didn’t get a vacation”
Again, make a list and write each disappointment down, without editing and judging. Whatever comes to mind get it down on paper, its part of letting them go. With both of these steps it’s great to share the list with someone you trust, reading each item. This step is designed to energize us and to clean the slate, preparing us for a new year.
Taking the time each year to acknowledge our accomplishments and disappointments is an important part of creating success and producing results. Congratulate yourself. You have taken the first step to transforming your life and creating an extraordinary new year.
Principle Two:
Learn Your Lessons!
In our annual review of the year the first principle is to look at what we did accomplish and our disappointments. The second principle is to: Learn Your Lessons. To learn your lessons it’s important to look at both the things learned from success and the lessons learned from the mistakes, disappointments and challenges that occurred.
In principle two, it’s time to look at the places where you fell short. Here is where we tell the whole truth and “nothing but the truth”. Looking at our shortfalls can be hard, but be honest with yourself. There might be a valuable lesson to be learned that will propel you forward in the upcoming year. Make a list of the things that didn’t go as planned, the places you came up short and your disappointments. Take a look at your lists of accomplishments and disappointments. Look for the themes – how did you achieve that? What caused that disappointment? We each have tremendous inner wisdom. We can learn a great deal from our selves, and from our accomplishments and disappointments.
It becomes a lesson when you turn it into a positive statement. Now, select a short, memorable and POSITIVE statement that sticks out at you – and write it as ADVICE to yourself. The statement should be meaningful so that if you followed the advice for the next year, and focused your behavior on it—it would help you avoid repeating the same disappointments as previously. Several examples of new guidelines could be:
· ASK FOR HELP
· JUST DO IT
· TRUST THE PROCESS
· ALWAYS listen to my heart!
· Follow up, follow up, follow up
Choose three guidelines for your focus for the next year. Keep them where you can see them and then use them to increase your success and accomplishments.
Taking the time to review our successes and disappointments to identify the important lessons is part of the process of transforming your life to one of extraordinary success. In these steps you essentially clean the slate and prepare for a new plan.
Principle Three:
Shift Your Paradigm
Many of us get in our own way when we set out to achieve a goal. Something stops us, blocking the success we want. When you really take the time to evaluate what is in the way it comes down to our own limiting beliefs and behaviors. Determine your barriers to success and the reasons (limiting assumptions) you believe in them. It’s about listening to that inner voice that tells you what you can and can’t do.
For business, we can get stuck in our familiar paradigm. This has happened in big businesses, such as Motorola and Nokia. Remember analog cell phone service. Motorola had the market. They were THE cell phone to own. When digital service started and digital cell phones Motorola believed that it wouldn’t go anywhere. They didn’t develop the technology. Nokia did and they took over the market. Motorola has had an uphill climb to get back in the market. They were stuck in the paradigm of analog technology. Paradigm shifts happen all the time. As business owners we need to stay clued into the paradigms we are living with and how they may be shifting. In looking at paradigms look at both your personal paradigms or stuck places and your industry paradigms. As the Internet develops we each have to continuously look at how we communicate, market, and do business. The paradigm for each of those is constantly shifting and changing.
Create a new vision, a new reality that discards the limiting assumptions and leads to positive actions and results. Keep it positive, personal, and in the present tense, “as if” it is already happening.
Limiting Paradigm:
“The softening economy is slowing our growth in sales.”
New Empowering Paradigm
“We provide quality products and outstanding customer service that lead to soaring sales.”
Staying aware of your limiting beliefs and limiting paradigms and continuing to work to shift them empowers you and your business. It creates the environment for producing results.
Principle Four:
Live Your Values!
Values are what guide our decisions. They are an integral part of who we are and how we live our lives. Being clear with yourself about your values, what’s important to you as you build your dream and vision; is vital to your overall success. Inventory your values, which are the values that make you who you are, that you just can’t live without? Complete this exercise for your business as well. How well can your business do if you are out of alignment with your values? Since values are our guides for our decisions if we are unclear about our values we can get way off track.
Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air.
You name them work, family, health, friends and spirit, and you're keeping all of these in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball.
If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls---family, health, friends and spirit - are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same.
Brian Dyson, CEO of Coca Cola Enterprises
Principle Five:
Set and Focus on Top Priority Goals!
Your goals are set and strategic plan developed within the context of your guidelines, your vision, and living your values. Writing down all of the goals for each of your major roles gets them all out on the table. Often goals can be combined or are repetitive. Choosing the top 10 goals gives you a powerful focus for the year. When you develop goals that are SMART they are:
· Simple
· Measurable
· Attainable
· Relevant
· Time-focused
This gives you the ability to track and measure each. When you set goals that meet the guidelines of SMART you can achieve great success.
The framework for creating and achieving your goals and Best Year Yet strategic plan is the Cycle of Productivity: 1) Create the plan; 2) Do what you plan; 3) Complete the plan; 4) Acknowledge how well you do. Because this is a cycle, you can repeat the BYY process year after year. Phase 4 of the cycle is critical to keeping the cycle going. The Five Principles of BYY focus on phases 4 and 1. The BYY system also provides techniques that ensure the success of phases 2 and 3 and implementation of your strategic plan.
Once you have identified and created your annual plan you need to strategize on how to make it happen. Implementation is often where individuals and businesses fall short.
Principle Six:
Make it all happen!
Break down your goals each month into smaller monthly goals, and even better is to break them into weekly goals. Establish a system of accountability. Most people start out the year with a great plan and great strategy and as the year moves on, they lose focus and the plan drifts. Our coaching provides you with the ongoing support and accountability to produce results.
Staying focused on goals and the things you desire is one of the greatest challenges many of us face. Perhaps you set a goal or a desire this year but in the day to day of our busy lives we lose track of it and as a result we end up abandoning it until next year.
Keeping ourselves accountable can be accomplished in a few ways. Here are our 12 tips for creating a focused and fun approach to success:
- Take the goal and break into smaller steps and review it each week and score yourself
- Make a chart to chart progress, each step of the way
- Hang signs around the house, in the car, at work with your new guidelines, empowering paradigm and top 4 values to keep you focused
- Tell family and friends about the goal and intention, when you share your goals people come forward with resources for you
- Create your own mastermind group to help you stay on track and support your ups and downs
- Partner with a friend or colleague to be an "accountability buddy", share your plan with them and talk once a week to let them know how you are doing
- Hire a coach to help you identify your goals and keep them on track all year towards extraordinary success
- Create celebrations of success; reward yourself -- gold stars, dinner out, a new something!
- Meditate each day on focused goal attainment
- Write your vision and goals down and read them everyday
- Join the Entrepreneur Success Group, and be part of a powerful group of business owners committed to achieving greater success in their business and greater balance in their lives.
- Have fun with each success and acknowledge it!
To move yourself into the success you desire spend some time now, creating your vision and focused plan for success. Building the business that you want is possible. With a focused vision, strategic plan and implementation plan you can achieve what you set out to.

Creating Multiple Streams of Income
Remember when families and couples survived on one income. Back in the 50’s and 60’s it was typical for there to be only one income. Today many are struggling with two incomes. Inflation and severe economic factors are challenging families to just survive, not even thrive. If this trend continues, imagine what the future holds for us: limited resources; limited incomes. Will two incomes be enough; certainly not. Take the time to prepare for the securing the future with a multiple streams of income plan. Creating multiple incomes flows into your finances can provide increased security for you and your family rather than to have an insecure future. This concept of creating multiple streams of income isn’t a new one but for many of us, it is just that – just a concept. It’s putting the concept into action that is the real challenge.
The rich have always used the multiple streams of income concept to maximize their income and security. When you use multiple streams of income if one income dries up, you can always fall back upon the other streams of income. If each stream of income continues to flow; you continue to have reliable income and continue to increase your wealth and your value. The typical person depends on the income from their job. To lose one income jeopardizes their survival. It could take years of hard work before they are able to return to stability. Financial stress has rippling effects into overall health and well being, relationship health and longevity.
Creating diverse sources of income gives you a backup to fall back upon, even if the income is not your main income strategy. Then, if one source were to evaporate your back up is already in place and automatically fills the gap. This provides you time to reassess, reorganize and regroup. And you haven’t been totally derailed and you are still on the happiness highway, safe and sound. The importance and soundness of multiple streams of income strategy is not lost on many today, therefore the want and rush.
Linear or Residual? Which strategy is your best fit?
Linear income is income that is earned on an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly basis. There is not a future or long term commitment attached to it; from your end or the payer’s end. This might be in the form of freelance work or a part time job. If you are a writer, web designer, graphic artist, there are some great websites for applying for freelance jobs. Some of these include: elance.com, freelance.com.
Residual income is an extra income where you work hard once and reap the benefits of the sale for many years after, the money just keeps coming in. This type of income can be built because each sale or addition results in increased residual income. It does involve work and persistence but if you choose the right type of residual income you will also be leveraging your time and resources.
Most of us earn linear incomes through our work or our profession. It is the type of income we are each trained to receive. Linear income is limited by the amount of time you are available for earning. There are only so many hours in a day. Yes, you can earn a good linear income but it requires consistent work. When people discover the power and the leverage available in residual income streams can secure the future: retirement. When evaluating residual income streams determine whether the program adds one new income stream or has built in multiple streams of income within it.
What about Internet options. Well, there are many opportunities on the Internet. Thorough evaluation is required as there are both good and not good programs on the Internet.
There are several things you should consider when you are evaluating any income stream:
- What is the true earning potential of the stream?
- What is the amount of time and work that is involved in getting this income stream working for you?
- What is the investment you have to make?
- Do you have to keep investing and what do you receive for the investment?
- Is this stream of income in alignment with your values?
- What is your level of commitment to achieving success with this income stream?
Earning additional income is for most of us an appealing idea. In creating new streams of income, while maintaining our existing streams of income, is for many a new idea. Residual income leverages your time and can maximize your income. Explore the possibilities of new income streams. Evaluate carefully and create new prosperity.

Setting Appointments with Your New Leads
When you make an appointment with someone who may become a future customer, there are several benefits that you will find. Let’s explore some of these:
The appointment itself qualifies them as an interested lead.
When you set an appointment, you are cutting through many steps of relationship building and jumping ahead. This saves a lot of time and you are building a relationship with the person faster and more authentically. People do business with people they know. If you have been able to set the appointment with the decision maker you won’t have to go through multiple meetings because you are already at the right one.
You have established a time to meet.
You have set the time and place and now you can prepare for the meeting. You have an opportunity to do research prior to the meeting and be knowledgeable about your prospect and their company. You have to decide what the purpose of the meeting is. If you are building a new relationship it might be that your purpose is just that, to meet, to ask questions, to listen and share information but not to “make a sale”. Determine what your purpose is in advance.
Your time is more productive.
Just the fact that you have an appointment with someone means that they are mildly interested in what you have to say, they are a more qualified lead. If they are meeting with you and spending their valuable time with you they have an interest at some level. During the meeting you need to determine what that interest is.
You know something about your audience beforehand
Appointments give you ample time to do research on your prospective clients and understand what their needs are so that they can be addressed during your meeting. This offers an advantage because you will go into it being able to offer something that they need.
Appointments are a great strategy for following up with new leads. You are able to further qualify the lead as a real prospect and begin the process of building a relationship with them. Since we know that people do business with people they know, this relationship building is key. The appointment moves that process along faster. We can use all sorts of tools for building relationships – articles, newsletters, direct mail, but in person meetings is by far the most effective because you become a REAL person to them, not just a name but a person. You’ve just increased your opportunity for success.

Are You Evaluating Your Lead Generation Strategies?
Generating new leads is a focus of most business owners. But do you ever stop to evaluate where your leads are coming from and how your lead generation methods are working? It is important to have systems in place to track new leads and evaluate each lead strategy.
There are a couple of ways that you can do this.
1. Website –
If you have a website then it should be one of your lead generation strategies. You want to have your subscription form on your site for your newsletter or email list. If you don’t, you will not be able to keep in touch with folks that visit your site. Take a look at your website statistics to see what kind of traffic your site receives and where the traffic is coming from. If your web host does not provide statistics you should set up a Google Analytics account and add the code to your web pages in order to track your traffic. You want to know who is visiting, how long they are staying on your site, what pages they are visiting and where they came from to get there. Did they do a search? If so, what keyword were they searching that landed them with you? Once they are there are they interacting with you and your site: subscribing to your newsletter, taking surveys, leaving feedback on your guestbook or forums? All of this detail is great information for you.
2. Leads –
Do you receive leads from referrals, lead boxes, listings in directories, yellow pages? When a new person contacts you it is a good idea to ask where they got their information from. Recently several business owners have asked whther the Yellow Pages is a good place for them to spend their money. As a business coach I really don’t know the answer to that because it is different for each business. It depends if YOUR business is receiving calls as a result of the ad. That is why asking about where the lead came from is so very important.
It's essential that you know where your leads are coming in and what isn't working. It's not cost effective or wise to use mediums that aren't working. They should be changed so that there are more leads generated, in the case of a website, or done away with altogether, in the case of a
newspaper advertisement.
The medium that you dispose of right now can always be revisited in the future.
A down economy is a great time to evaluate everything that you are doing, but it is not a time to eliminate advertising and marketing. You have to continue to market or you won’t have new leads and referrals. Do your marketing wisely, track it all and evaluate relevant pieces each month.
As part of the new Business Coaching Express program I am offering a marketing plan review. If you have questions about your marketing then sign up today.

Friday Night Shout Out (a bit late in getting it here!!)
Don't you just love Fridays?!? I know I do. It's a sign of the upcoming weekend, time to play with the kids and just relax a bit!
This week has been a busy one for me and I haven't even had a chance to let you know about the great things that I have added to Compass Rose Consulting!
So, I am writing a quick Friday afternoon note to give you the link so that if you have a minute you can check it out!! Next week I will send you a longer email, with articles, ideas, and info on this new program.
In a nutshell, I've been watching CNN (too much, probably), and all they talk about is the new president, the economy and the delayed stimulus package. As a small business owner, it can be downright scary and depressing. But, at the same time I see energy, enthusiasm and optimism all around me and that is what I am choosing to buy into!
But all of the news also got me thinking about my programs, access to them and who was wanting them and who was challenged to. I spent a great deal of time over the past week overhauling my new VIP Coaching program BEFORE it even got out of the door. I redesigned it so that it is totally accessible to small business owners and offers incredible value. I also was having some fun playing with names and websites and renamed it.
Business Coaching Express. What I want you to get from it -- that when you join you will receive coaching to accelerate your results. That this program is about action, fast action to move you and your business forward and upward!!
Well, already this email is longer than I expected.
Check it out:

And let me know what you think!!
Have a great weekend.
I look forward to talking with you soon.
All the best,
Donna

Social Networking and Web 2.0: Are they the same thing or different?
Tim O’Reilly coined the phrase Web 2.0 at a conference. From there it took off and evolved or morphed into a new idea for increasing the effectiveness of Web 2.0 sites on the Internet. Web 2.0 sounds like it is social networking while it is actually a type of platform that supports and brings more to these social networking sites.
Let’s talk about Social Networking. Social networking starts with individuals. They meet and connect forming new relationships. You could think of it like balls and sticks, with the ball representing the individual and the stick representing the connection. Without the social networking platform (the sticks) they would have made the connection.
Web 2.0 provides the space where connections and interactions can happen. The particular platform also determines the manner in which these interactions can occur. In some individuals create profiles and through their profile they are able to meet and connect with new people. On other platforms there are different means of connecting – through existing relationships and connections, or through groups or by invitation. Other features of the platform like news feeds, multimedia content, blogs, instant messages, social groups, audio and video, and message boards are also a huge part of Web 2.0. Through the unique combinations of these individuals are able to grow their connections and develop a large or gigantic online network.
Many sites use Web 2.0 as their basis. Some that you have probably heard of are:
• YouTube
• Wikipedia
• MySpace
• WordPress
• Blogger
• Flickr
There are many more, but this gives you a sampling and perhaps you are using one or two and didn’t even realized you were part of Web 2.0.. If you are a member of any of these social networking sites, then you have sampled a Web 2.0 platform.
Web 2.0 sites use member generated content that is then ranked by the search engines. Good content is found on the site and the member that created it gains new connections and a “following” that is valuable. Your following can be used to increase your popularity on the web OR can create increased exposure and visibility for your business.
If you are a business owner, then you might wonder how Web 2.0 can be helpful to you. Web 2.0 platforms are already being used by businesses, universities, and families. The applications are easy to use so it becomes a great way to stay in touch. And, it is user friendly, so you don’t need to have web design knowledge or html knowledge. You are able to update your presence on the web every day or multiple times throughout the day without the expense of a web designer or web host. It is a way to keep in touch with easy to use and manageable applications. Your connections are able to subscribe to your updates using RSS Feed (Really Simple Syndication) This application automatically sends out an update to your subscribers desktop when changes occur to your page. RSS is frequently used on blogs and news sites as a convenience to readers, saving them valuable time. This enables them to be up to date without having to check your website for changes and updates. It keeps them posted. It also avoids the pitfalls of email.
Companies can also use Web 2.0 technology through Google Groups, Yahoo Groups and Twitter. It allows the company to update employees via one medium. They can receive important information about company projects, changes or new agendas.
Web 2.0 is also a useful medium for the business owner. It provides tools for driving new traffic to blogs, and websites. Several sites also provide places to post events and distribute event information to your network. The most useful part of these Web 2.0 sites is the ability to build new networks of people. Even if the site starts you out connecting to people you know, you are quickly able to move from those connections to their connections or other new connections. Each site is a new place for people to get to know you and your products. It is therefore vital that you use these sites with care, develop goals for your purpose and keep your values in check when using them. You want to protect your reputation and build a good online presence.

What is Social Networking?
Social networking is a familiar activity, meeting and getting to know people but in a totally new venue. We’re used to doing it at work or church or the golf course but many can be intimidated by opening up to meeting new people via an Internet site. Social networking sites provide this new platform for getting to know more “friends.” You can reconnect with old friends or meet and connect with new people. Just like any other networking activity it takes time to make connections and time to build meaningful relationships.
Social networking took off among the younger generation first. Like much of the Internet it was developed at college campuses. Social networking sites were a way to stay in touch with friends when they weren’t right there with you. It also became a way to make new friends in a less stressful social situation.
But, social networking is not just for the teeny boppers. Adults now enjoy social networking as well. The first social networking sites we all heard about were Facebook and MySpace. This was mostly due to controversy surrounding what some Generation X kids were posting, but it made parents aware of the social networking craze. Parents joined just in order to monitor their teenager and found usefulness on the site for themselves.
Now, adults are using social networking for several different purposes. First, it is a venue to reconnect with old classmates, friends and colleagues: the use is personal. It is easy to stay in touch with many people at the same time and build and rebuild relationships. You can keep in touch with that world traveler and also see pieces of their travels along the way instead of waiting for them to return.
For business owners both small and large there is value in social networking. Marketing gurus found they were able to build meaningful alliances and business partnerships through their connections on social networking websites. In addition, social networking has become valuable to building your web presence as well. A social networking presence is akin to going door to door and telling people about your product. But you can easily reach people globally and not just in the neighborhood. For each site that you decide to join create a powerful profile, include pictures and details. Add personal info such as likes and dislikes to give people a feel for your personal side. Join groups of people with similar interests.
On first look, social networking appeared to be a venue for the young, but what many have discovered is that there is value for individuals, businesses, corporations and age doesn’t matter. When you make your first visit to a social network you could easily feel intimidated but don’t worry, the groups are friendly and there is a wealth of info to get you started.
Social networking has a place in the life of both young and old alike. Use it to meet new people, make business contacts, stay in touch with family, or just to beef up your Internet presence. The wave of the future is social networking. Don’t you want to join?

What is Social Networking?
The Internet continues to grow new media and social networking is one that offers value for both the individual and the business person. It’s not just buzz word, but rather an Internet phenomenon. It’s like a global cocktail lounge or living room gathering. It is a way for people to interact, get to know each other and connect, without traveling half way around the globe or even leaving the comfort of home.
